Our goal in the Transportation Resources Division is to provide the highest quality of safe, effective and efficient movement of pedestrians through a rich variety of types: automobiles, bicyclists, and by foot. While doing it in an efficient and cost-effective manner. We do this through the commitment of maintaining and repairing the street network, sidewalks, traffic control devices, and storm drainage facilities throughout the City of Locust.
The largest portion of this equation is the street network. That said, the responsibility of maintenance and operation of this network is divided into (3) three separate responsibility groups…. private, state maintained, and local city streets. To see a breakdown of these streets, click on this map.
The Transportation Resources Division is responsible for all planning, construction, inspections, maintenance and repairs, and along city streets only. Other tasks include, but not limited to:
- Street light management
- Street sweeping
- Right-a-way mowing and all overgrowth cutback.
- Severe weather cleanup is also performed. This not only includes winter weather events, but this also includes wind/rain/lightning damage.
The Transportation Resources staff is on call 24/7, ready to respond to any hazard that may threaten hometown travelers and visitors alike.

Citizen Resources-
Pothole Repair-
You can report a pothole location 24 hours a day by email @ tflieger@locustnc.com or you can call City Hall during business hours. Residents are encouraged to take action and report all potholes.
Request a Streetlight Repair-
Duke Energy maintains numerous outdoor lights to help promote safety and security in public areas. Let us know if an outdoor light or streetlight is out or not working properly. Please be very specific in your description as to the location of the light which needs repair.
The first rule of safety is do not touch a power line or anything touching a power line, such as tree limbs, tools and toys. Even power lines that have fallen may be dangerous and should not be moved or disturbed.
Please visit this website to request a streetlight repair.
