Locust in Yoga starts March 24!

Our Yoga Flow – 5-Week Session begins March 24 at 6 PM and is open to all experience levels.

Whether you’re brand new to yoga or have practiced before, this is a great way to stretch, relax, and recharge. Thanks to Condor Spirit Yoga for partnering with us to provide this to our community!

UPDATE 2/5/26: Trash and recycling will be picked up on Saturday, February 7th.

Following this week, trash and recycling will resume their normal cycle.

We understand how inconvenient this is and know this is not an ideal situation, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption, but there will be NO TRASH COLLECTION this weekend.

Due to back-to-back winter storms, service had already been pushed to Saturday, and with another storm approaching, Waste Pro crews will not be able to safely operate on Saturday.

Regular service will resume on Friday, February 6. To help reduce the impact, extra bags placed outside your cart will be collected at next week’s pickup.

City Hall will be operating under normal hours on Wednesday, January 28th (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).

During the recent storm, our priority was the safety of both residents and city staff. We appreciate the community’s patience as conditions improved and travel became safer.

We are grateful to the Locust Police Department and Department of Public Works for their preparedness and responsiveness throughout the storm.

Stanly County Alert: Emergency Shelter Opening

EMERGENCY SHELTER OPENING

In response to Winter Storm Fern, Stanly County, in coordination with the American Red Cross, will open an emergency shelter to provide a warm and safe place for residents in need.

Stanly County Senior Center

283 N Third Street, Albemarle, NC 28001

Opens: Sunday, January 25 at 8:00 a.m.

The shelter will offer sleeping cots, basic meals, and essential services. Those with special dietary needs should bring their own food. Residents are encouraged to bring medications, personal items, chargers, blankets, and enough supplies to last multiple days.

Zero-tolerance policy for drugs, weapons, and alcohol.

All shelter guests must sign in and out.

Medical Notice: The shelter cannot support individuals requiring ventilators, IVs, or continuous medical monitoring.

Please share this information with anyone who may need assistance during the storm. Additional updates will be posted as conditions change.

STATE OF EMERGENCY – WINTER STORM FERN

 

Stanly County has declared a local State of Emergency ahead of Winter Storm Fern. The State of Emergency went into effect Saturday, January 24th at 8:00 AM.

Public Safety and Emergency Services personnel from across the county are actively monitoring the storm and working to ensure the safety of all citizens.

 

Residents should plan for hazardous conditions, including:

Icy and unsafe roadways

Freezing temperatures

Downed trees

Possible extended power outages

 

Citizens are urged to prepare now:

Stay home and off the roads during the storm whenever possible. This helps keep you safe and allows emergency responders and utility crews to work quickly and safely.
